RETHYMNON, CHANIA, VRISSES
Our major excursion travels along the North West coast with breathtaking scenery on both sides – spectacular mountain ranges, and sleepy little fishing villages. First stop is Rethymnon, known as the City of scholars. Here you can stroll through the narrow streets with their Venetian flavor, of maybe take coffee in a harbourside coffee-bar. We move on to Chania for lunch. Chania is the little Venice of Crete. It possesses reputedly the largest covered market in the Balkans, and a street almost dedicated to leather goods, where you can see items such as boots, shoes, handbags etc. hand made.
After lunch, by the beautiful Venetian harbor of the town, where <<Zorbas the Greek>> was filmed, we take the way back to Heraklion, shopping first at the little village of Vrisses, famous for the local yoghurt topped with delicious honey!
CRETAN NIGHT
A not to be misses opportunity for an unforgettable Greek style evening, by a near by picturesque Cretan Village.
Musical instruments, costumes & dancers, from the mainland of Greece, other islands, as well as bouzouki music and the famous Zorba rhythm & dance, will be demonstrated for you during a non stop, three hours energetic program that many times you will be invited to join.
A very nice dinner, with unlimited local wine or two soft drinks is also included. A terrific evening out for all ages…..!
SAMARIA GORGE
The trek through the Samaria gorge will probably be one of the most exciting days of your holiday in Crete. It is 18 kl. Of breathtaking scenery in the longest natural gorge in Europe, with imposing sheer rock faces and the pine filled atmosphere of another world. We begin our descent early in the morning to avoid being in the gorge when the sun is at its hottest. As you reach the bottom you will be making the same exit as the British soldiers and the Greek partisans made during their escape in the last war.
Waiting for you at the bottom will be the crystal clear waters of the South Cretan sea, and the small village of Aghia Roumeli where after a good rest and lunch we will broad the boat to the Chora Sfakion for our return to your hotel.
SAMARIA GORGE THE LAZY WAY!
Don’t miss the chance of seeing the gorge simply because you do not fancy the long hike. Do it the <<lazy way>> and we will take you by coach to Chora Sfakion, from where a boat will carry you to Aghia Roumeli – the end of the gorge, from where you can walk a few kl. up to the gorge and witness its beauty and serenity, lately honored as the best natural preserved area of Europe. Afterwards you will have time to eat and swim before the return boat trip (itself very worthwhile) to Chora Sfakion, and the coach journey back to your hotel.
